Raymond was a member of Operating engineers Local 520 in Granite City, Illinois. He enjoyed trains and passed his enthusiasm for locomotives down to his children and grandchildren. He was a loving family man and friend, who will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Wetzel; his son, Elmer Wetzel, and a brother, Marvin Wetzel; and a sister-in-law, Donna Wetzel.
Surviving are his mother, Viola Wetzel, nee Arras; his loving wife of 56 years, Edna M. Wetzel, nee Hofstetter, of East Carondelet, Ill.; his children, Edward Ray Wetzel, of East Carondelet, Illinois and Caroline (Robert, Jr.) Simcoke, of St. Charles, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Debra Wetzel, of East Carondelet, Ill.; his grandchildren, Dwayne (Meghan) Wetzel, Jessica (Mason) Talley, Heather (Daniel) Linton, Robert Simcoke, III, Brian (Heather) Simcoke, Jeremy Piel, and Cortney Wetzel; great grandchildren, Dylan, Ethan, Blake, Lilly, Asia, Breana, Olivia, Tanner, Audrey, Hailey, Ayden, Ashton, and Jaice; his siblings, LaVerne (Jerry) LaVoie, Larry Wetzel, Annette Kyle, and Cindy (Robert) Elder; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral: Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the funeral home with Pastor Vince Szymkowiak officiating. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Illinois.
