During Monica’s formative years, she accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Centreville Church of Christ where she often sang in the choir.
Monica was a lifelong learner and an exceptional student. She received numerous awards and recognition for academic achievement throughout her years in school. In addition, she was cheerleaders and a city-wide spelling B champion. After graduating from Assumption High School with honors, she attended Indiana State University briefly before transferring to Eastern Illinois University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education.
After graduation, she briefly worked for AT&T and later taught school in the Cahokia an East St. Louis School District.
In 2015, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she returned to the work, she loved the best, teaching students in the Omaha Public School System.
Monica enjoyed learning and speaking foreign languages and was most fluent in Spanish.
She loved interior design and could really create a beautiful living space. She also enjoyed singing old gospel songs and watching football. Most of all she loved to Shop! She never met a sale she did not like!
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Eric. Monica has left to mourn; her three sisters, Sharon Cannon, Bonita Helm (John) Mackey and Carmon Helm(Rodney) Brown and brother Earl (Rose) Helm . Two Aunts: Lois Jones and Beverly Lacy. Two nephews, Shelton Andrews and Orlandas Cannon. Three nieces, India Brown, Kimberly Williams and Tiffanie Wells. Three great nieces, Tionna Andrews, Krystal Cannon and Kyla Cannon. Two great nephews Caden Cannon and Tierre Andrews with whom she had a close and special relationship plus a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
VISITATION: A visitation for Monica will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 from 11:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, IL.
FUNERAL: A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation, at 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
