William "Billy" Watt, 66, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday April 10, 2025. Billy was born in Worcester, MA, to Ivan C. Watt and Barbara L. Watt. He was a lifelong resident of Fairhaven, where he was well-known and supported by many in the community. In his youth he was the proud recipient of two medals presented to him by Eunice Kennedy Shiver, founder of the Special Olympics through the Joseph P. Kennedy Foundation. Billy attended Fairhaven High School class of 1980 and was a loyal friend to Steve Lobo and the family at Pumpernickel’s Restaurant as well as Ester and family from Minerva's in Fairhaven, who watched over Billy every day.
Billy is survived by his brothers: John G. (Marilyn) Watt of Virginia Beach, Virginia; David R. (Debbie) Watt; and Robert J. (Kristine) Watt, both of Fairhaven. He was also a beloved uncle to Daniel (Ebony) Watt, Sarah (Joshua) Arruda, Lindsay Watt, Alexander (Jessie) Watt, James Watt, Richard Watt, and Thomas Watt. He was also a beloved great-uncle to Johnathan Watt, Oliver Arruda, and Benjamin Watt, and a special friend to Valerie.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Better Community Living and Active Day of Fairhaven. A special thank you goes to Justin of the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services and the dedicated caregivers at Castle Avenue House, especially Joe, Jaq, Enone, Leanne, Darlene, Nicole, Jen, Carlos, and his R.N., Kathy. Billy’s brother Dave was also a constant source of support, as Billy called him twice a day for many years.
Billy was predeceased by his parents, Ivan C. Watt and Barbara L. Watt; his sister-in-law, Linda Z. Watt; and his great-nephew, John Waldle.
In memory of Billy, we ask that you show kindness and compassion toward individuals who are differently abled. They simply want to be liked and accepted. As his loving mother often said, “Never judge someone else, because ‘there but for the grace of God go I.’”
A visitation for Billy will be held at the Waring-Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington Street, Fairhaven, MA 02719 on Wednesday April 16, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12 PM. His funeral service will follow, burial in Riverside Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
