Born on May 30, 1947 in Worcester, MA. Ruth was the beloved daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Duncan) Chickering. She grew up in Charlton, MA and graduated from Charlton Mass High School in 1965. She attended Worcester State College where she completed her degree in Education in 1969. Ruth married her husband, Philip DuPont on June 25, 1983. Together Ruth and Philip enjoyed 38 years of marriage. Ruth and Philip lived in several towns in Massachusetts and New Hampshire before moving to New Bedford in 2020.
Ruth was a devoted mother to her sons Scott DuPont and wife Caroline Fleites of Arlington; Andrew DuPont and wife Kelly DuPont of Fairhaven; and daughter, Ashley Stelmack and husband Jeffrey of Carver. A cherished Nana to her grandchildren, Kadence (Kady) Stelmack, Hazel DuPont, and Claire DuPont. A loyal companion to her dog, Zoey.
Ruth was a meticulous homemaker and a phenomenal cook. Her delicious homemade sauce and meatballs recipe will continue to be a DuPont family specialty (even though no one has yet to replicate the recipe perfectly). Ruth loved long drives with no specific destinations, knitting, crocheting, and the occasional Midori sour.
Ruth will be remembered for her kindness, selflessness, and generosity. She was a beacon of positivity and support. Ruth dedicated her time to provide for her family. Ruth’s priorities were always focused on everyone else around her. Ruth loved to attend her children's sporting events, was often the loudest mom cheering in the stands, and always showed support with her signature thumbs up. Ruth saw the good in everyone and would go out of her way to offer help or lend a listening ear, never expecting anything in return. So long as others in her life were happy, Ruth was happy. She will be dearly missed.
