Richard Silva, age 61, of Springfield, died Saturday, March 31, 2012. Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Antonio and Dorothy (Oliveira) Silva, he was raised in Fairhaven before moving to Springfield when he was 18 years old.
Mr. Silva attended Fairhaven High School, he later earned an Associate’s degree from Holyoke Community College and a Bachelor of Arts from Westfield State College. He worked at the Center of Human Development in Springfield for many years before retiring due to illness.
Richie loved playing the guitar, writing songs and listening to music. He also loved playing pitch and was an avid golfer.
He is survived by two brothers, Antone “Barry” Silva and his wife Susan of Dighton and James Silva and his wife Nancy of Fairhaven; four sisters, Sandra Leblanc and her husband William also of Fairhaven, Terry Sinko and her husband John of Fairhaven, Doreen Cormier and her husband Brian of Acushnet and Jacqueline Markey and her husband Brad of New Bedford; his godfather and uncle, Jack Silva also of New Bedford; four nieces, Kelly Silva, Jennifer Gerard, Madison and Taylor Markey and two nephews, Jeffrey and Thomas Sinko. He was also the brother of the late Bruce Silva.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 9 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn, 180 Washington Street, Fairhaven, followed by his funeral mass at 10 AM in St. Mary’s Church, Main Street, Fairhaven. Burial will be private. Visiting hours, Tuesday, 5-8 PM.
