

Michael A. “Mike” Powers, 51, of Fairhaven, died unexpectedly on August 1, 2011 as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was the loving husband of Susan (Moniz) Powers with whom he shared 25 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, a son of Richard and Rose Marie (Frates) Powers of Fairhaven, he lived most of his life in Fairhaven. Mike was educated in Fairhaven schools, attended Northeastern University and proudly served in the United States Army. He worked hard to build his company, Powers Construction & Remodeling into a successful, well known and respected business for over 20 years. A master craftsman, Mike was a talented carpenter who deeply loved his family and friends.
During his children’s younger years, Mike was very active in Fairhaven Little League, serving on their board, volunteering, sponsoring and coaching his teams. Some of his many volunteering efforts included to cook for “Men Who Cook” and at St. Joseph’s School, where he organized a chess club and cooked for the annual fish dinners. Along with being an active member of the community and town meeting member, Mike enjoyed fishing, cooking, kayaking and riding his motorcycle. He was always one you could count on to help whenever he was needed.
Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are his children, Sarah Ryan Powers, Joshuah Michael Powers, Christian Michael Powers and the late Jarred and Caleb Powers; his sister, Lisa Leavitt; his brothers, Richard Jr., Dale, Kenneth, Jeffrey and Paul Powers and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 8, 2011 at 10AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 74 Spring St., Fairhaven. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven. Burial will be in River-Side Cemetery.
