Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Philip and Josephine (Caron) Camire she was a lifelong area resident. Fiercely proud of her French Canadian ancestry, she had many stories of growing up in the “North End” of New Bedford during The Great Depression.
She’ll be remembered for her kindness, her wry sense of humor, having fostered 13 babies for the Division of Child Guardianship, her patience, love and a strong commitment to family. Mrs. Whittle was a homemaker and a lifelong reader. She was a member of the Fairhaven Benevolent Society and the East Fairhaven Improvement Association.
She is survived by her children, Randall E. Whittle and his wife Susan Ritchie of Marshfield, Gayle M. Whittle and her husband Myles Tillotson of Wareham, and Charles P. Whittle of New Bedford; three grandchildren, James Whittle, Patrick Whittle, and Christian Zalewski; seven great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; two step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Grace Ponte, Roger Camire, Edward Camire, Frederick Camire, and Madone Camire (died in infancy).
