Henry J. Nichols, 84, of Dartmouth, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at the Bourne Manor following a period of declining health. He was the husband of Sandra Ann (Souza) Nichols, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Leslie R. and Lauretta G. (Masse) Nichols, he had resided in Dartmouth for the past 47 years.
Mr. Nichols was a graduate of New Bedford High School and received an Associate’s degree in Police Science from Bristol Community College in Fall River.
He was a United States Navy Veteran.
Mr. Nichols proudly served as a Police Officer for the New Bedford Police Department until retiring in 1985.
Henry enjoyed traveling to his favorite vacation spots, Hawaii and Florida. He loved swimming and spending time at the beach. He and his wife enjoyed dancing. Henry was a talented wood carver and loved watching movies, especially westerns. Henry was an animal lover and was known to have a sweet tooth. He will be dearly missed by his loving family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Annette Normandin, Dolores Furtado and husband Octavio and Paul E. Normandin, Jr. and wife Ellen; his brothers, Paul, Kenneth and Dick Nichols; his grandchildren, Jonathan, Andrew, Vanessa, Crystal,Victoria and Brandon; his great-grandchildren, Ellie, Vivienne and Kevin; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Lisa Carreiro and brother of the late Norman Nichols.
