Gerard “Jerry” A. Cabana, 94, of Fairhaven, peacefully passed away at home on Monday, November 25, 2024. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth E. (Sylvia) Cabana, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Arsene and Esther (Nadeau) Cabana.
Jerry was a graduate of St. Anthony High School, class of 1950. He worked for My Bread Baking Company for 37 years, serving as union president for 25 years.
He was an easy-going, fun-loving, kind and simple man, who took great pride in raising his children and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. Jerry enjoyed walks, nature, making people laugh and singing. He was a handyman around the house and liked helping his family and neighbors as needed. Traveling with his wife made her smile, and going out for breakfast with his St. Anthony classmates was very special. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church Couples Club, and he enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Patriots games, and listening to the greatest songs of Perry Como and Barbra Streisand. Jerry was the greatest husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He had a heart of gold, and will be deeply missed by many.
He is survived by his loving children, Judy Lally and her husband John of Fairhaven, Joan Cabana of Fairhaven, Lisa Cabana of Fairhaven, and David Cabana of Fairhaven; his grandchildren, Jasmine, Brittany, Thomas, Beth, Eric and Cole; 7 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Mark Cabana, and brother of the late Blanche Laliberte, MaryAnn Cruz, Cecile De Souza, Theresa Duggan, Victoria Dumas, Jean, Edmund, Joseph, and Napoleon Cabana.
His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 11:30AM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME AT FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington St. Fairhaven, MA 02719. His Visitation will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm for family and friends to attend. Burial in Riverside Cemetery.
