Born in Dartmouth, a son of the late Joseph V. and Alice (Pimental) Costa he lived in New Bedford then Fairhaven most of his life.
Geno began work as a young boy driving a horse drawn milk wagon and making deliveries from South Dartmouth to New Bedford’s Northend. He worked as a store manager at Fairhaven Mills, then district manager for Mammoth Mart. Geno retired in 1996 as operations manager of southern stores for Building 19.
Geno loved being with his daughter Debbie and spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, dancing, casinos, doing yardwork and retreating to his Florida home.
Geno was a Third-Degree Master Mason for the Lafayette-Dover Lodge in Norwood, MA since 1982.
Debbie would like to thank his caregivers, “Geno’s Angels”, Michelle, Suzanne, Alex, Stephanie, Joanne and his granddaughter, Trisha Chace for their compassion, support, and attentiveness, and to the entire staff at Community Nursing.
He is survived by his daughter, Debra Costa and her partner Cheryl Duclos of Fairhaven; his sons, Eugene “Gene” Costa, Jr. and his wife Pam of Naples, FL, David Costa and his wife Cathy Robinson Costa of Acushnet, Kenneth “Kenny” Costa and his wife Maggie of VA, and daughter, Sandra Moniz of New Bedford; two brothers, Gil Costa and John Costa and his wife Sandra all of New Bedford; his devoted brother-in-law and friend Kevin Leaver and his wife Maggie of New Bedford; ten grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Lillian Silva and Joseph Costa.
His funeral service will be Friday, November 18, 2022 at 10 a.m. in WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven followed by burial in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 4-8 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. For online tribute/directions: www.waring-sullivan.com.
