Ernest N. Lavoie, 89, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 17, 2024 following a long illness. He was the husband of Margaret M. (Johnson) Lavoie with whom he shared 67 years of marriage.
Born in Fairhaven, a son of the late Arthur and Emma (Duquet) Lavoie, he had resided in Dartmouth for the past 52 years.
He was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School and served in the Army National Guard and Army Reserves.
Mr. Lavoie was the former owner of Fortin Electric of New Bedford, starting at the age of 18, until selling the business and retiring.
Ernest was a gun enthusiast, loved lighthouses, boating and fishing. He took great pride in beautifying his home through gardening and maintaining a well-manicured lawn. He was a member of the Master Electricians and the North End Business Association. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his loving wife Margaret.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Normand Lavoie of Mattapoisett, Ronald Lavoie of Acushnet, Rene Lavoie of Revere, Alan Lavoie and wife Kathy of Fairhaven, Suzanne M. Hood and her late husband Michael of New Bedford and T.J. Lavoie of Mattapoisett; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, sisters in-law and brothers-in-law. He was predeceased by his siblings, Anne Allen, Edna Fafard, Jean Johnson, Henry and George Lavoie.
A Celebration of Life will be announced.
