Born in New Bedford to Robert H. Disbury and Anne E Disbury (Dean). Dorothy, a long time Fairhaven resident, will be remembered for her generosity and her commitment to her community and church. She was active in many civic and church organizations including Town Meeting member, Zeiterion Theater usher, Fairhaven Improvement Assoc., Riverside Cemetery Board of Directors, Greater New Bedford Garden Club, Fairhaven Music Parent’s, Fairhaven Mother’s Club, Colonial Club, Mid town Twirlers and more. She was on the Board of Trustees of the Centre Methodist Church in Fairhaven.
Dorothy is graduate of Fairhaven High School class of 1943 and Bates College class of 1947. Her employment began as a lab technician at Squibb Laboratories and culminated with teaching for many years in the Fairhaven School system.
Dorothy is survived by her son, James R. Gammans and granddaughter, Bay E. Gammans. She is predeceased by her husband Frederick A. Gammans and her son David D. Gammans. She was a loving role model to Mary S. Rapoza and her sons Sean, Alexander and Robert Butters.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Alan Weinshel and staff and the Fairhaven Community nurses for their quality care. They also thank the many close friends and family who were always supportive and helpful.
Visiting hours are Fri. Feb. 1, 2019 from 4-7 pm at the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven, MA. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 10 am at the First Congregational Church, Center St, Fairhaven, MA.
