Albert Correia, 90, of New Bedford, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness. He was married to his beloved wife Lorraine (Andrade) Correia for over 66 years.
Born in New Bedford, he was the only son of the late Albert M Correia and Helen (Brown) Correia, and younger brother of the late Lillian Souto, Pauline Laporte, Eunice Barrows, Helen Rogers and Luella Stockwell.
Albert, affectionately known as Al or Buddy to those who knew him, was a hard working fisherman and later ran a successful home improvement business. In his retirement, he remained very active riding his bike, going to the gym, baking and gardening. He also enjoyed reading about New Bedford’s history and whaling. Most often he could be found starting a new woodworking or painting project in his workshop.
Above all, he loved spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. He made them all feel like they were his favorite. He loved having cookouts and family gatherings. Buddy was most happy when he was at the table surrounded by his family and friends.
He was a loving husband and devoted father of six. He is survived by his children: Steven Correia of Fairhaven and his late wife June; Cindy Fernandes and her husband David of New Bedford; son David Correia of New Bedford; Tracy Reed and her husband Steve of Acushnet; the late Michelle Theordore and her late husband Jeffrey; Kim Lemieux and her husband Jerry of Assonet.
Surviving in addition to his wife and children are twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by one great-grandchild. He was the beloved son-in-law of the deceased John and Anna Andrade.
In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Buddy’s love of animals with a donation to the Humane Society on 31 Ventura Dr, North, Dartmouth, MA 02747
