Walter was born to Harry and Verna Jackson in Pittsburgh PA on 1 February 1929. He graduated from Oliver High School in 1948. After high school in August 1950, Walter enlisted into the US Air Force where he was assigned to the Hq 9th Weather Squadron at Mountain Home AFB Idaho. After serving a tour in Korea as a mortician assistant, Walter was honorably discharged 30 September 1954.
After his return, Walter married is high school sweetheart Mayme Reeves on June 25, 1955. They celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss the day before she passed away.
During his long and happy life, Walter enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, watching sports, supporting the boy’s scouts and was huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He and Mayme also enjoyed spending time with their church families at Sunset Hills United Presbyterian Church along with Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where Mayme’s father and brother served as pastors.
Walter worked as a parcel post carrier for the US Postal Service for 30 years. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife. Some of their happiest moments were their vacations to Japan, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Alaska and numerous cruises.
Walter is preceded in death by his parents and wife, along with is brothers Rodney, Gerald, Louis, Harry Jr. and sister Willie-Ann
Walter is survived by his brother George; his two children Walter Jr, (Stephanie) and Verna (Robert); his exceptional grandchildren Desiree and Wyatt and many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and countless friends.
