With great sadness we note the passing of Rosemary W. McCoy from natural causes on March 17, 2021, at the age of 87. Much beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Rosemary will be greatly missed by the many who loved her. Her generosity of spirit, wise counsel, support and understanding, compassion, and love made her in fact and spirit the Matriarch of the family. Rosemary had a gift for making everyone, even strangers, know that they mattered.
Rosemary was born on November 2, 1933, to William John and Alice Sylvia Winter. Rosemary and Donald Raymond McCoy, her husband of 51 years who predeceased her, raised a loving family of five daughters who remain close today: Lucy (Mark Leverone), Susan Kloss (John), Catherine, Colleen Helmacy (Robert), and Nancy Esworthy (John). Beloved Mother and close friend, forever our strongest ally, Rosemary will be with us forever in spirit.
Rosemary enjoyed and will be fondly remembered by her granddaughter, Melody Brown (Ray), and two great grandchildren, Sawyer and Makenzie. Rosemary or “Sis” was also the oldest of nine siblings: William Winter (Marilyn), Alice Ritchie, Robert Winter (Jackie), Walter David Winter (Evelyn), Stephen Winter, Michael Winter (Billie), Mark Winter, and Jane Palenski (Dan), all of whom she loved. Even late in her life, Rosemary continued to reach out to encourage and inspire her numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosemary will be buried at Fairfax City Cemetery on Thursday, March 25, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. As an alternative to flowers, which may be sent to Demaine Funeral Home, the family suggests donations may be made in Rosemary’s memory to charities for animals, to whose protection and welfare she was devoted, including the Humane Society, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and Best Friends Sanctuary in Utah.
