Obituary of Roger William Doyon
Roger William Doyon, 89, of Fairfax, Virginia passed away on May 20, 2023 from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Born on October 23, 1933 in Manchester, New Hampshire, Roger was valedictorian of his grammar school in both English and French. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire, served in the U.S. Army Reserve, and received a graduate degree from George Washington University. He enjoyed a 35-year career in civil engineering and international relations for the U.S. Department of the Navy and the National Science Foundation. Roger was a devoted husband to his wife, Muriel, of 62 years, a loving father to his sons Mark, Scott, and Craig, and a doting pépère to his grandchildren Alison, Matthew, and Ruby. He was a lifelong Catholic and member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Fairfax, Virginia. Beyond his professional and family life, Roger loved traveling, gardening, studying history, and showering tough love on his beloved Washington pro football team. Roger is survived by his wife, Muriel Doyon of Fairfax, Virginia, his sons Mark Doyon of Winchester, Virginia, Scott Doyon of Decatur, Georgia, and Craig Doyon of Chamblee, Georgia, and his grandchildren Alison Doyon of Irvine, California, Matthew Doyon of New York, New York, and Ruby Doyon of Decatur, Georgia. He leaves behind his loved daughters-in-law Kathleen Doyon, Robin Doyon, and Ashley Dupuy. Roger was preceded in death by his father Albert Doyon, his mother Lillie Doyon, and his brother Paul Doyon. On Wednesday, May 31, a viewing (10:00 a.m.) and a funeral service (11:00 a.m.) will be held at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 3700 Blenheim Blvd., Fairfax, VA 22030. A reception will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home, 10565 Main St., Fairfax, VA 22030. Friends, family, and acquaintances are also welcome to attend the burial at Fairfax City Cemetery (next to Demaine Funeral Home) immediately following the funeral service.
