Roger M. Brewster, 90, died July 20, 2023 at a nursing home in Fredericksburg, VA. He was born on July 21, 1932 in Amonate, WV in McDowell county, the third child of Clarence E. and Bess M. (Porterfield) Brewster.
Roger graduated from Big Creek High School in War,WV in 1950. He then went on to attend Virginia Tech University where he was a member of the Highty-Tightys Corps of Cadets. He played clarinet in the Cadet Marching Band. Roger graduated from Virginia Tech in 1954 with a degree in Horticulture. Then, after two years in the Army and some post graduate work, Roger settled in the northern Virginia area in 1958. In 1960, he married his sweetheart, Laura Gross, who grew up in Bluefield, VA. They were married for almost 46 years before her death in 2006. They had two children, a son, David and a daughter, Margo. The family were members of Fairfax United Methodist Church for many years. Roger sang in the choir there and was an excellent tenor.
Roger worked as a landscape designer for over 40 years, eventually owning his own landscape business, Hidden Lane Landscaping. He won numerous design awards and together with his wife Laura, established Hidden Lane as one of the best landscape design companies in northern Virginia.
In addition to his wife, Laura, he was predeceased by a brother, Rodney Brewster and his two sisters, Peggy Billups and Shirley Brewster. Survivors are his son, David Brewster and his wife Deanna; daughter Margo Brewster-Harris and fiance Brent Sunday; grandsons Joseph Brewster and William Brewster.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 27 at Demaine Funeral Home, 10565 Main St., Fairfax, VA.
