A graduate of West Point Military Academy and Korean and Vietnam War veteran, Bob received several medals to include the Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star, Senior Parachutist Badge, Army Commendation Medal and National Defense Service Medal.
Bob, born on June 3, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA, lived in Prospect Park, PA with his mother, Claire, father, Harvey and sister Dot. As a young boy Bob enjoyed catching tadpoles and fishing for catfish. After moving to Drexel Hill, Pa., Bob ran track for the high school and the Penn Relays. As a running back on the Upper Darby High School football team, Bob helped guide the team to their one and only state championship. Bob was offered football scholarships from the Naval Academy, Lafayette, and Lehigh, but accepted the scholarship offer from West Point after being highly recruited by Vince Lombardi, then an assistant coach at West Point. Injuries cut his college football play short.
It was in High School that Bob met Gail, his eventual wife. Gail precedes Bob in death after she lost her battle with cancer in 2013.
Services will be held this Saturday, July 16, 2016 at noon at Demaine Fairfax Funeral Home in Fairfax Virginia. Bob’s burial at Arlington National Cemetery will take place at a future date.
