She is survived by; her brother and his wife, Jim and Barbara Schulik, her three sons John Willard and wife Mimi, Paul Mark, Mathew Eric and wife Karyn, two grandchildren Kara Ann Totten and John Kelly Totten with his wife Christy and one great granddaughter Shayla Rose Totten.
Norma was born in Mt Vernon, Illinois on September 28, 1927 to Paul and Emma Schulik. After graduation from Mt Vernon High School she and a childhood friend traveled to Arlington, VA where she worked for the US Army Signal Corps (G-2) as a stenographer. While later working at the Post Exchange on Ft. Myer, she met and married SGT John V. (Jack) Totten on October 2, 1948. In 1949 Norma gave birth to John Willard and in 1950 to Paul Mark. In 1953 the Totten family moved to a 1000 sqft, 3-bedroom, 1 bath home on Littleton Street in Fairfax, VA where Norma would remain for the next 45 years, moving to her dream home in Sterling, VA in 1998. In February 1955 Norma gave birth to Matthew Eric. On September 29, 1990 Norma lost her husband of 42 years to acute respiratory failure. During Norma’s 91 plus years, she also worked for Government Employee Insurance Company (GEICO), Ft. Myer Federal Credit Union (now PENFED).
A lover of music, playing the clarinet in high school, she would sing in the choirs at the houses of worship where Jack was the choir director. She was a member of the Church at Northern Virginia where she worshiped and sang in the choir. Norma was a three-time cancer survivor. She died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her three boys and daughter-in-law Mimi at 10:10 PM Monday night.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 22, 2018, from 4pm to 7pm at Demaine Funeral Home, 10565 Main Street, Fairfax, VA 22030.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Norma’s name to Capital Caring (2900 Telestar Court Falls Church, VA 22042).
