Elizabeth Theresa Arnett, age 89, died on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. Elizabeth was a resident of Annandale, VA. Beloved wife of the late William L. Arnett; loving mother of William L. Arnett, Jr. (Sandra Brooks), David S. Arnett (Barbara) and Mark G. Arnett. Elizabeth is also survived by six grandchildren, David S. Arnett, Jr. (Amy), Rebecca Bryson (Justin), Jeremy Arnett, Theresa Trent (John), Joshua Arnett (Gina) and Amanda Arnett (Doug); seven great-grandchildren Ashley, Juliet, Henry, Jack, Holly, Faye and Evelyn; siblings Alice Plunkett, Andrew Dorko (Helen) and Katheryn Romett (Sylvester). In addition to her husband William, Elizabeth is preceeded in death by an infant brother, infant sister and three brothers Albert, Edward and Robert. Elizabeth (Betty) was born in Barnesboro, PA, a small coal mining town. After high school, she was recruited as a “Government Girl” to work as a secretary at the Pentagon in Washington D.C., during and after World War II. She married William Arnett on September 6, 1952. She left work to raise three sons. In 1971, she was hired by the newly formed company INCO, Inc., and served as executive secretary to the company’s president. She worked a short time for McDonnell Douglas Corporation, after they purchased INCO, Inc., until developing medical problems. Her interests throughout the years included: gardening, reading, bingo, dancing, sewing, bowling, and collecting. Towards her later years, she was captivated with the genealogical research of her family. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, and active in the St. Ambrose and Holy Sprit Catholic Church Senior Citizens clubs. Betty was avid at remembering relatives birthdays, anniversaries, and other significant dates. She was an advocate of the power of prayer. A visitation will be held Monday, August 22, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home, 10565 Main Street, Fairfax, VA 22030. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church, 3829 Woodburn Road, Annandale, VA 22003. Interment to follow at Fairfax Memorial Park. Reception to follow immediately after at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
