Denis Carlton Worley, age 92, died in his sleep on November 8, 2015. He is preceded by his devoted wife of 58 years, Mary L. Worley. He was the beloved father of Christopher Worley, Denise Wilcox, Stephen Worley, Cathy Presnell, Bridget Buttram and their spouses. Denis took great joy from his nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sisters Charlotte Notaro and JoAnn Little, and his sister-in-law, Naomi Worley. Denis was born in Asheville, North Carolina and grew up in Washington, D. C., graduating from McKinley Tech. During WWII, he proudly served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific. He earned his B.S. from Georgetown University in 1948; his M.C.S from Southeastern University in 1949; and his J.D from Georgetown in 1958. In 1960, Denis was admitted to the D.C. Bar. In 1967, he was selected to participate in the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. His career in accounting, management, and consulting began with Regardie and Brooks, continued with GAO, Dept. of Navy, Dept. of Army, and Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. In 1960, Denis received an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Federal Government Accountants Association. He taught at Georgetown U., American U., Bowling Green State U., and Mary Washington U. His community action work included starting the Winslow Hills Community Association and the Annandale Boys and Girls Club as well as serving as P.T.A. president at Annandale Terrace Elementary. Mass will be celebrated in Denis’s honor at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Annandale at 11:00 AM on November 20. Burial will follow at 2:00 PM at Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to one of Denis’s favorite charities: Disabled American Veterans or Paralyzed Veterans of America.
