After a heartbreakingly short battle with pancreatic cancer, Audra passed away in the early hours of February 14th, 2024. She was surrounded by her beloved husband Rob, her sister-in-law Virginia, and an amazing group of friends. Since there was no way to get there fast enough, her out of state family was there in their hearts and through phone calls and text messages. Although the pain had been difficult, her final hours were without pain and she died peacefully.
Audra was born March 5th, 1967 in Deerfield, Illinois to John Herman and Jannes Elizabeth (Price) Zobus. She graduated from Deerfield High School in 1985 and University of Wisconsin Whitewater in 1989. Audra moved to Virginia in search of job opportunities in 1996 where she met her soul mate Rob (Robert Russell Dickey). They married July 3rd, 2004 in a beautiful ceremony at Rob’s ancestral home, Wakefield Manor. She absolutely loved Wakefield and “The Lodge” – a home on the Wakefield property that Audra and Rob renovated and made their own. Planning weddings and other events at Wakefield for friends and family members was one of Audra’s favorite activities. Having her parents to “the farm” for Thanksgiving and of course, Farm Bash were yearly highlights in her life. Audra brought joy and laughter (and a glass of Chardonnay) to every event.
Audra loved her job at Rappahannock News and was extremely grateful for their flexibility as she went through too many neck and back surgeries in the last few years of her life. She loved all her co-workers and customers and she considered them friends.
Audra is survived by her husband Rob Dickey, her parents John and Jan Zobus, her sister Laura (Rick) Kempf, niece and nephew Erin (Brian) Leightner and John Kempf as well as sister and cousin in-laws Katy Dickey, Virginia (Bill) Fisher, Lindsay (Robin) Matthews and nieces Eliza Fisher, Caroline Fisher and Maddie Matthews.
She is also survived by Windy (the dog) and Sophie (the cat). She loved watching them become buddies this past year and sharing her recliner with them.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday May 16th, 2024 at Wakefield Manor, Huntly, VA with burial immediately following at the Wakefield Manor Cemetery. It will be an event just like Audra would have planned it.
If you would like to make a gift to honor Audra’s memory, please consider a contribution to the Wakefield Manor Cemetery Fund. Checks can be made out to Wakefield Manor Cemetery Trust Acct and mailed to 40 Wakefield Manor Lane Huntly VA 22640.
