ANNE RUST PATTESON 1920-2017 Anne Rust Patteson, 96, a long-time beloved resident of Fairfax, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 6, at the Greenspring Village nursing facility in Springfield, Virginia. Anne was the daughter of the late Virginia State Senator John W. Rust and Anne Emily Hooe. Her other siblings, John H. Rust, Warwick Brown, and Eleanor Mattern, have predeceased her. Anne graduated from St. Agnes Episcopal School in Alexandria in 1937 and obtained a bachelor’s degree from George Washington University in 1941. Her first husband, Lt. Ellis Spear Middleton, II, was an airman in the European Theater of World War II and was lost in combat in September 1944, just two years after their marriage. Her second husband, John Garrett Patteson, an attorney, died in May 1950, after two years of marriage. Despite these losses, Anne made a name for herself in Fairfax as a hardworking and creative businesswoman. During World War II, she made ladies’ blouses that were featured in windows of Garfinckel’s Department Store in Washington, D.C. After the War, she became part-owner of the successful Lady Fairfax Dress Shop. Beginning in the late 1960s, and for many years afterwards, she was a realtor for Long and Foster of Vienna, Virginia, and was frequently recognized for her outstanding client service and sales record. Anne Hooe, as she was known, was a gracious and generous person who loved to host family parties and to vacation at her favorite beach resort, Rehoboth Beach, DE. Mrs. Patteson is survived by her daughter Hart Middleton Asbury, her daughter Mary Linda Rynearson, and her son-in-law Arthur J. Rynearson. There are two grandchildren: Amanda Hart Richardson, married to Randall Fletcher, and Elizabeth Anne Grozis, married to Kevin Grozis. There are two great grandchildren: Ryne Vetter Grozis and Blake-Anne Richardson Fletcher. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, at Truro Anglican Church, 10520 Main St., Fairfax, Virginia 22030.
