Al was born in Charleston, SC to Betty Murray on January 15, 1946. He graduated from Charles A. Brown High School in 1964 and attended Pace University in New York where he lived for many years. Al was also a proud member of the Air Force and served during the Vietnam era.
On September 27, 1980, Alphonso wed Carolyn Murray in Washington, DC. Al worked in the federal government as an Air Traffic Controller and later as a Computer Specialist at the State Department for over 25 years.
Al is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carolyn Murray, his daughter Babette Murray of Chicago, stepdaughter, Lia (Jay) Pendarvis of Annandale, his mother Betty Murray of Charleston, one sister Pearl (Jerry) DeLain, of Charleston, 4 grandchildren, Jay Pendarvis, Myles Pendarvis, Sasha Pendarvis, Biahje' Benson and nephews DeLano DeLain and Jerome DeLain.
The family will gather on Wednesday, November 16th, 9:30am at the Demaine Funeral Home in Fairfax for a short memorial officiated by Reverend David Bonney of Fairfax United Methodist Church, with a catered reception to follow. The burial will be held at Quantico National Cemetery at 12:30pm. Arrangements are by Demaine Funeral home.
