Hazel Grace Heath, age, 93, died peacefully on Saturday, March 30, 2013. She was born in Red Sulphur Springs, West Virginia on March 8, 1920 to the late Charles Campbell Ballard and Louella Waldron Ballard. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Henry Ike “Bunk” Ballard, Campbell Strat Ballard, John Coles Ballard and Patrick Ballard and sisters, Anna Lea Ballard Mann, Nellie Ballard Long and Lilly Belle Ballard Page. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 65 years, Lester S. Heath and son, George Thomas Heath, sisters, Lorene Ballard Ganoe of Bozoo, West Virginia and Lucy Mae Ballard Smith of Alderson, West Virginia. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Hazel went to the public schools in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia and graduated from Peterstown High School. She attended Ohio State University in 1946 and received her secretarial diploma from Miami Jacobs Jr. College in 1947. Hazel joined the Women’s Air Corps and the Women in the Air Force from January 3, 1941 to December 1, 1945. Hazel and Les were married on July 3, 1947, in Ocoee, Florida. The embodiment of a gracious lady and hostess, she spent many years at her husband’s side while he served in the Army and Air Force. Together they raised a wonderful son. After their retirement, they enjoyed traveling and playing golf. Graveside funeral service will be conducted Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Noon at the Dayton National Cemetery.
