Edward Swope, age 76 of Fairborn, entered into eternal glory on Tuesday, June 20.2023 in Hospice at Springfield Regional Hospital. He was born the son of Wilbur and Treva Swope on July 6, 1946 in Englewood, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Swope, in 2012, his parents, Treva and Wilbur Swope, and brother, Dave Swope. He is survived by two children: Erika (Josh) Nelson of South Charleston, Ohio and Tim (Becca) Swope of Grantham, New Hampshire, as well as four grandchildren; Carly and Brooke Nelson and Claire and Jonah Swope. He is also survived by a brother, Jerry (Carole) Swope and many nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Northmont High School and Miami University. He began his teaching career at Stebbins High School. He then enjoyed 30+ years as a teacher and guidance counselor within the Fairborn City School District prior to his retirement. He coached baseball, boys and girls basketball, football and golf. He would say his greatest coaching accomplishments would include winning the WOL Girls Basketball Title in 1993 and winning the State Boys Golf Tournament in 1988. Ed, along with the 1988 golf team, are members of the Fairborn High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Ed enjoyed playing sports in high school. He was a member of the football, basketball and baseball teams. He also was inducted into the Northmont Athletic Hall of Fame. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching sports with his brother Jerry. He was a long time member of Rona Community Church.
A memorial service will be held at the Rona Community Church, 1082 Rona Parkway, Fairborn, Ohio on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 12 PM. Friends may visit at the church from 10 AM until the time of the service on Thursday morning. Private interment of cremains in Byron Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Make a Wish Foundation or Rona Community Church.
