Roy Sonal White was born in Indianapolis Indiana on November 12, 1941, to French Zonal White and Susie White. The family moved to Detroit Michigan where he was raised with older brother Donnie and his younger sister Patricia. He spent his early years in Detroit Michigan before joining the Unites States Airforce at the age of 18. Shortly thereafter, Roy met the first love of his life, Setsuko Kobuna while serving in Tokyo Japan. They were married in 1963 and had 3 daughters, Cheryl, Susan, and Angel.
They remained happily married until Setsuko’s passing in 1980.
Roy went on to honorably serve his country as a Master Sergeant in the United Sates Airforce, while raising 3 daughters as a single dad. On August 26, 1989, he married the second love of his life, Jewel Brown. Along with her son Deon, they blended their families and became one. Roy retired from the military and began his second form of service as a US Postal worker.
Roy’s passions were family, cooking, and shopping for the latest gadgets; and if he could incorporate all three in the same day it was like a little piece of heaven for him. He loved having family over and cooking a delicious meal with his latest cooking gadgets. He loved to sit in his favorite chair and just people watch as his children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren interacted with each other. It’s those little moments in life that seemed to be the most meaningful to him.
Roy’s extended family is a huge list of friends that he’s accumulated over decades. Some of the strongest bonds come from good times, as well as enduring and overcoming trials and tribulations together and coming out stronger on the other end. His life is a testament to that, and the lifelong bonds that were forged through it all.
Roy passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 5, 2022 at the age of 80 after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Jewel; his daughters, Cheryl, Susan, and Angel; and his stepson, Deon. He was also the loving grandfather to 13 grandchildren and a growing number of great grandchildren.
