Rena was born September 6, 1916 in Asotin, Washington to Clarence W. Phay and Pearle (Case) Phay. She had one sister, Gladys McEntyre. She was married to William (Bill) Mendoth for over 50 years and to Hollis Brown for 20.
Rena went to school in Princeton, California and spent time in Woodland, California with her Aunt Mabel Stille, who raised her.
In her long life, Rena accomplished many things. Aside from being a homemaker, she modeled for Weinstock, worked for her husband at Blue Moon restaurant, and was a medical assistant.
Rena was an expert seamstress and tailor. She taught sunday school and was a Girl Scout’s leader. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star - San Juan Chapter, and the last of the charter membership. She was active in the Soroptimist Club and started the cancer dressing station in the basement of the Community Club Center. She later became the state chairman of the Memorial Cancer Dressing Station.
She is preceeded in death by husbands William Mendoth and Hollis Brown, children Mary Jane Blough, William Mendoth Jr., and Richard Mendoth. She is survived by daughter Patricia (Cooper) Santmyer of Santa Maria and grandchildren Dan Blough, Marji Hernandez of Santa Maria, Barbie Blough of Montara, Geoff Cooper, Ovale Kevin Cooper, Sebastopol and Kristie Ruffell of Spanish Fork, Utah, and 10 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services for Rena will be held at Mount Vernon Memorial Park at 8201 Greenback Lane in Fair Oaks, California on Sunday, July 8, 2018. A visitation will be held at 12:00pm, with a funeral service at 1:00pm and a reception to follow.
A special thanks goes out to the Order of The Eastern Star funeral team for officiating the service, fulfilling Rena’s wishes, and to Dan at Lucien’s Home for the wonderful care given.
