Pierre Lavapie, age 49 of Folsom, CA, joined our creator on the morning of November 24, 2021, after more than five years of courageously battling cancer. Surrounded by his family and friends at the UC Davis Medical Center, he passed away knowing that he is very much loved and cherished.
Pierre was born in Naga City, Philippines to Cielo Lavapie and the late Pelagio Pan Lavapie II. He has five siblings - Francis, Mark, Russell, Miciel, and Ryan. As the eldest child, he became the father figure and breadwinner at a young age when his Papa passed away.
Pierre graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering degree from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. He was a top-notcher when he took the ECE licensure examination. He worked for Intel and Micron for 27 years and had been consistently recognized for his exceptional contributions and as an outstanding employee for his various roles in Product Engineering, Leadership, and Management.
Pierre was a Youth Pastoral Council President at San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish. During one of their activities, he met his wife Lynn Vitug. He then invited Lynn to join the Parish Renewal Experience and both served in the choir at the parish. They were married on December 30, 2000, and have been blessed with three beautiful daughters. Being devotees of Mary and out of love for Christ, all their daughters were named after Mary and Christ - Christina Marie (Yna), Chrissa Mae (Sam), and Mary (Kristen). Pierre was a loving husband and father who always thought of his family first. He loved spending time with them.
LIVE
Pierre lived a simple, albeit very full, life. He was a gentle soul, brimming with optimism and passion in everything he did. He lived his life for others. He excelled in all aspects, in studies and career, yet he remained humble, kind, and generous. He always thought of the common good and others’ welfare. His altruistic nature was greatly magnified when he was diagnosed with cancer. He never wallowed in negativity but always looked at the brighter side. Despite the pain, he found time to cheer on and help others. Most especially, he continued to praise and glorify God through his songs and loving service to Him.
LOVE
Pierre loved watching anything — movies (especially Marvel), the History channel, National Geographic, and trivia game shows — but he enjoyed them the most when his family watched with him. He loved planning trips and spending quality time with family and friends. He always made the most out of every moment. He loved sweets and enjoyed coming home to his wife’s home-cooked meals everyday. He loved singing, especially praise songs with SATB arrangements. He loved helping people in need. He was passionate about serving the Lord and loved sharing his time and talent to further God’s kingdom.
LAUGH
Pierre could easily fill the room with his laughter. He laughed at any joke — even corny ones — and laughed the most when he was being pranked by his wife, while trading playful insults with the family, and when he played with little kids.
LEARN
Pierre taught his family to find happiness when no one else could, hope when all else fails, strength in times of weakness, joy in times of suffering, modesty despite the success, and above all, Faith and Trust in God in times of difficulty. Pierre was a role model of love, faith, and dedication to his family and friends.
LEGACY
Pierre will be dearly missed but he will always be remembered for his beaming smile and his genuine love for others, especially for his family. He will always be the faithful servant who shared his life, time, and talent in service to God. He will always be known as the man who gave his best and excelled in everything he did, yet remained simple and humble. He will always be treasured as a loving husband, father, son, brother, friend, and coworker.
Pierre’s family is grateful for all the help, love, care, and prayers that they have received. They take comfort knowing that he is no longer in pain, that he is now enveloped in the loving arms of Him who loves us.
