Nora Janette Barnard

Nora was known to her family and friends as Jan. Jan was born on January 20, 1924, at Bosco, Louisiana. Her parents Lonie Thomas Pender and Pearlie Morris Pender were cotton growers. They had 5 children. Jan’s two brothers were James and Lonie Thomas “Bug”. Leona and Docia “Sallie” were her sisters.

Jan graduated from high school May 28, 1943 and Bastrop Commercial School December 14, 1943. She worked for Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator in Monroe, Louisiana.

Jan married John Ross Barnard, “Jack” on November 25, 1944.

They had two children Jeanne Elaine and John Ross, Jr.

As a Air Force officer’s wife she moved around the country. The family spent one year in Okinawa. She also worked as a telephone operator in Syracuse, New York and Colorado Springs.

Her favorite activities were gardening, fishing and needlepoint.

Her granddaughter Bessie Barth and husband Erin live in West Sacramento with their children Ellieza and Corryn. Grandson Marion Powell lives in Texas. Her sister Sallie lives in Georgia.

Jan was proceeded in death by her husband Jack and son John.

Jan left this earth on September 20, 2012. She is greatly missed by her family.
