Mark William Zimmerman, a devoted husband, cherished friend, and beloved member of the community. Unexpectedly departed from our midst on June 3, 2023, at the age of 74, Mark leaves behind a void that can never be filled. His memory will forever reside in the hearts of Melissa, his loving wife of nearly 42 years, as well as his dear family and friends.
Mark and Melissa shared a love story that captivated all who witnessed it. Their bond was an exemplar of deep affection and devotion. Mark had a unique gift for transforming complex concepts into poignant sound bites, often reminding us with his trademark phrase, "Thank you, God, for another day. Tomorrow belongs to no one." His zest for life was infectious, and his passions centered around boating, fishing, and hunting, but above all, he held an unwavering love for Melissa, his cherished family, and his treasured friends.
A masterful storyteller, Mark had an uncanny ability to evoke laughter and joy. His brother, Lance, held a special place in Mark's heart, as they shared an incredible bond and an exceptional knack for humor. Their laughter echoed through the years, bringing immeasurable happiness to both of their lives. Mark's journey began at Sacramento State University, where he graduated in 1971, and embarked on a long and successful career in property management.
Fond memories of summers spent with Uncle Ralph and Aunt Eva at Flathead Lake, Montana, were frequently recounted by Mark, as it was there that he discovered the joys of boating, fishing, hunting, and countless adventures. From the tender age of six, Mark's love for boating blossomed, becoming an integral part of his identity. He found solace and exhilaration in any body of water—be it the vast ocean, meandering rivers, or tranquil lakes. It was in those moments that he felt most alive, experiencing the pure joy that only nature can bestow. Over the years, Mark generously showered his affection upon their devoted Yorkies, and while he leaves behind Isabelle, Jax, and Winnie, it is now their duty to provide solace and comfort to Melissa.
Mark's happiest moments were spent on the back of his boat, cup of steaming coffee in hand, cradling Winnie in his arms, while Isabelle and Jax lay contentedly nearby. In those peaceful moments, he contemplated his next project, found fulfillment in completing it, and then returned to savor his now-cold coffee.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Marie Zimmerman, as well as his brother Gary. Mark is survived by his loving wife, Melissa, his brother Lance (Carley), and his nephews Chad and Kyle Zimmerman, along with his niece Jenna (Zimmerman/Cameron).
To honor Mark's memory and celebrate his remarkable life, family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on June 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. The event will be held at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, located at 8201 Greenback Lane in Fair Oaks, with a reception to follow. Let us gather together, sharing stories, laughter, and tears, as we pay tribute to a life that touched us all. Though our hearts ache with grief, may we find solace in the enduring legacy of Mark's love and indomitable spirit.
