Katherine "Kathy" Jane Rhodes was born September 11, 1939 in Bend, Oregon to parents Robert and Jane Wells. She spent most of her childhood in Anchorage, Alaska, where her parents were long-time residents. Since then, many of her years have been spent in Newcastle, California.
In 1972, she married Ray Rhodes. Ray and Kathy loved to travel throughout the country in their motor home and later in their converted bus. She was also adventurous enough to travel overseas to the island of Kwajalein in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Ray and Kathy Rhodes celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary in October of 2018.
Kathy has always had a passion for helping people and making friends wherever she went. She received her degree as a licensed vocational nurse and primarily worked with cancer patients until her retirement in 1995. Three words that describe the way she lived her life would be: kind, compassionate, and caring.
Kathy had a wide selection of interests including being an avid reader and collector of books, travelling throughout the country and overseas, and spending time with her many friends and family. She also loved music of all kinds.
Being a spiritual person, her other love was the fellowship with her spiritual family in the Unity Church of Auburn.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Ray Rhodes; children, Joe Palmer of Auburn, CA; Julie Rehman of Arlington, VA; and Jana Palmer of Applegate, CA; and step daughters, Kelly James of Colfax, CA; and Donna Rhodes of Twin Falls, ID. She is the grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Kathy was predeceased by her daughter Janelle Lynn, son John Palmer, and step son Raymond Rhodes.
A memorial service will be held on January 5, 2018 at 11:00am at Mount Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks, California. A reception will follow the service at the same location. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer's Association of California at altz.org would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to all who participated in the loving care of Kathy including family, friends, and Roseville Hospice.
