With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Darlene Harper, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who left us peacefully on April 13, 2025, in Sacramento, California. She was 81 years old.
Born on February 27, 1944, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Darlene lived a life full of love, service, and dedication. She was a devoted wife to Joe Harper and a loving mother to her son, Bryan Carbaugh, and his wife Kristen, as well as her stepson, Trevor Harper, and his wife Maya. Darlene was also a proud grandmother to Woody, Max, and Madelyn Carbaugh, and great-grandmother to Nicole Carbaugh and Beau Harper.
A woman of deep faith, Darlene had a profound love for the Lord, which guided her through all aspects of her life. She spent 35 years as a nurse with Kaiser Permanente, where her compassion and care touched countless lives. Her dedication to her patients and colleagues made her an invaluable member of the healthcare community.
Outside of her professional life, Darlene had many passions. She had a special place in her heart for boxers, the loyal and loving dogs she cherished. She was an avid bicyclist, a scuba diver, and a world traveler, always seeking adventure while volunteering for various charitable causes. Her travels took her to many corners of the globe, but she always returned with stories and a deeper sense of gratitude for the world around her.
Darlene's warmth and generosity of spirit were felt by everyone she met. She had a smile that could light up any room and a heart that was always open to those in need. Whether with family, friends, or members of her community, Darlene’s kindness was a constant presence in the lives of those who were lucky enough to know her.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and faith that will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who knew her. Darlene’s memory will be cherished by those who knew her as a pillar of strength, compassion, and unwavering kindness.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Joe Harper; her son, Bryan Carbaugh (Kristen); stepson, Trevor Harper (Maya); grandchildren Woody (Josie), Max, Beaux, and Harper Madelyn Carbaugh; great-grandchild Nicole Carbaugh; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
Darlene will be deeply missed but forever remembered. Her love and light will live on in all of us.
Rest in peace, Darlene. You touched so many lives, and your legacy will continue to inspire us all.
A memorial service to celebrate Darlene’s life will be held on May 9, 2025, at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks, CA.
