John Alvion Ravenscroft passed away peacefully on August 17, 2011; he was 77. He was born on March 23, 1934 to John & Alice Ravenscroft. J.R. married Mary Murphy and they had three children. He served his country in the United States Air Force for over 20 years. After he retired he volunteered as a docent at the California Railroad Museum and taught a rail safety class, Operation Life Saver. J.R. is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Ravenscroft, his daughter Allison (David) Dailey, son John Ravenscroft, daughter Florence Ravenscroft and granddaughter Katie Dailey. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice Ravenscroft, and his sister Emma Mae Hoffman. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, August 23 from 12-1pm and funeral service at 1pm at Mount Vernon Memorial Park & Mortuary, 8201 Greenback Ln., Fair Oaks, CA. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to UC Davis Hospice, Alzheimer’s Association or California State Railroad Museum.
