Greg was born on July 6th, 1932 in San Francisco, California and passed away on August 20th, 2024 in Citrus Heights California
Greg's parents were John Gregory Hereford, Sr. and Marion (Knotts) Hereford and his wife of 52 years Barbara J. Hereford. Greg is survived by his only daughter Colleen Marie (Hereford) Feaster and his grandchildren Timothy Challen Feaster and Charisse (Feaster) Roe and his step daughter Elizabeth.
Greg graduated from Sacramento High in 1951 and attended Sacramento junior college. He was an Army 11th airborne paratrooper where he received honors for good conduct, parachute badge and national defense while in the Korean war. Greg retired after 34 years of service from the Southern Pacific Railroad where he started as a Brakeman then as a Conductor. He was a Conductor for Amtrak for a few years then moved to freight where his regular route was from Roseville, California to Sparks, Nevada where he enjoyed working in snow service.
Greg was also involved with the Citrus Heights Lions Club where he enjoyed volunteering his time with his wife Barbara. Greg stated his proudest moments were having children and grandchildren. Also a wife who shared the love of traveling around the world and visiting many foreign countries.
His hobbies included listening to his favorite Jazz music and to the San Francisco Giants games on the radio then also watching them on television along with the 49ers. Greg also enjoyed playing senior softball for many years and doing his daily crossword puzzles.
