He was born on August 17, 1924 in Kansas City, MO. the eldest of 6 brothers
to Giovanni and Gina (Sola) from Ragusa, Sicily.
Upon graduation from high school, John joined the Army Air Corp proudly serving his country
both as a member of The Mighty Eighth Grand Slam 379th Bomb Group during WWII and then later
during the Korean conflict.
While on leave from duty, John met the love of his life, Carmelina Marino, at a USO dance in
Los Angeles, Ca.. They married on September 4, 1946 at St. Alphonseo's Catholic Church in
Los Angeles. John was an adoring and devoted husband to Carm and they were married 65
years until her death on December 8, 2011. He took an early retirement from Civil Service
from the Army Depot to care for Carm as she battled Multiple Sclerosis. John often said that
he felt God's purpose for him in this life was to care for his wife.
After Carm's passing, John took a keen interest in Geneology, publishing a comprehensive
book on his family's history.
John was also a huge sports fan dating back to his youth in K.C. when he and his pals watched Babe Ruth
through a knothole in the fence at the ballpark.
John was a life-long Los Angeles Dodger and Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a San Jose Sharks enthusiast.
Additionally, John loved gaming as a pastime, especially his trips to Red Hawk Casino with his friends.
His favorite activity was traveling and, toward the end of his life, he journeyed to the Vatican and beyond
with his St. John Vianney church group. His trip was memorable and he assembled a huge photo binder
to showcase the many highlights of his travels. He dedicated the photo album to his caregivers on the
trip and brought his photos wherever he went.
John was social, friendly, outgoing, sharp as a tack, inquisitive and extremely conversational.
He had a green thumb, loved good food and all things Italian.
Most of all, John Cascone loved God. Up to the end of life, he loved to read the Bible and
pray the rosary daily. He never missed a mass unless he was totally incapacitated.
John was predeceased by his wife, Carmelina Marino Cascone, his son, David John Cascone,
his brother's George Cascone, Salvatore Cascone, Paul Cascone and Anthony Cascone
all of Missouri.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Peter Hurwicz of Morgan Hill, CA.,
His brother, Joseph Cascone of Missouri and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Remember John fondly with a twinkle in your eye and a smile in your heart.
