Harry Caston, Jr. Sacramento, California – Harry Caston, Jr. peacefully transitioned with his devoted wife Dorothy and family by his side. Harry was born in Magnolia, Mississippi (County of Pike) to the late Harry Caston, Sr. and Mattie Varnado Caston. After graduating from Rosehill High School, Harry enlisted in the United States Army. He would often share the story that the reason he joined the military was because whenever his Uncle Ciscero came home to visit he always admired his uncle’s uniform especially his Eisenhower military jacket. Harry would often state, “It was that jacket that inspired me to join the military.”
Harry received an honorable discharge from the Army in 1957, but later reenlisted in the Air Force. He would go on to serve an additional 20 years and ultimately retired from Travis Air Force Base 1975. Harry would go on to further his education and received a BA in Criminal Justice from California State University, Sacramento in 1978, and a MPA in Management from Golden Gate University in 1984.
After leaving the military Harry would go on to work as a civilian at McClellan Air Force base as a quality assurance specialist. It was at McClellan that Harry met the love of his life Dorothy Johnson in 1980. They married in 1981, and together they advanced their walk with God and found their spiritual needs met at Unity of Sacramento Church in 2017.
Harry had a passion for owning his own business and joined multilevel business ventures that “promised to make him rich.” He ultimately found his niche in real estate investments. For over 40 years Harry and Dorothy acquired numerous properties and were landlords to several families in Sacramento.
Harry had a passion for luxury cars! In his spare time, he especially loved riding around in his Torch Red Corvette, playing Sudoku and reading motivational books. He also loved dressing to the nines in his tuxedo when supporting his wife Dorothy at the Alpha Kappa Alpha, Eta Gamma Omega chapter debutante balls, as well as the Kosmos Civic Club formals. He was an avid jazz lover. He would spend hours listening to artist such as Grover Washington Jr. His other passion was philanthropy where he donated generously to his spiritual community and numerous charities.
Harry Caston was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Willie Jean Lang, Gladys Caston Bush; his brother William Caston; and his first wife and mother of his children, Angelee Caston.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 41 years Dorothy Caston (Harry was her one in a million); his children Karen Caston Woods (Perry), Keith Caston and Eric Caston; and his brother Russell Caston (Betty). Harry was dearly loved by his three stepdaughters that he embraced as his own: Lynn Blankenheim (Tim), Katrina Rood, and Monica Nichols. Grandchildren Keith Jr. and Tiffanye Carper; nine bonus grandchildren; devoted nephew Terence Caston and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
