Descended from the Veerkamp and Kipp original pioneer families of El Dorado County, Eileen rose from a simple farm-girl beginning to become a respected professional Registered Nurse serving in Sacramento and Butte Counties plus being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Eileen joined the Nurse Cadet Corps while studying nursing at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Sacramento. The war ended just as she was finishing her training so she was not needed in the Military Nurse Corps. She began her career working at Mercy Hospital as a surgical nurse. She worked for many years in the Emergency department at Enloe Hospital in Chico as well as various Doctors offices and clinics throughout Sacramento County.
Marrying Glen Ansted in 1947, a Marine home from fighting the Japanese on islands in the Pacific, they established their household in Sacramento and along came son Jim and then later daughter Sue. The family enjoyed many vacations together throughout the west coast and Canada.
Retiring in 1982, Glen and Eileen continued their leadership in the Elks and Elkettes Lodge in Folsom. In 1997 they celebrated their 50th Anniversary at the Lodge. After Glen’s passing Eileen enjoyed the Red Hat Society and also knitted caps for the newborns with the Mad Hatters for local hospitals. She participated in various clubs and organizations, the El Dorado Hills Garden Club, the New Comers club, and her beloved Gabby Gourmets.
She fought off deteriorating health with her determined, courageous spirit until finally called home to be with God, Glen, brothers Vinton and Harold, and many relatives and friends who preceded her.
Eileen is survived by son Jim, daughter Sue, and 8 grand- and step grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
