Dorothy Jean Martin

Dorothy Jean Martin entered into rest on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at the age of 95. She was born in June of 1927 in Sparta Illinois to Earl and Ruth Pope. At 2 years of age the family moved to California and settled in the area of Fair Oaks. There, she met and married her future husband Eugene Martin, beginning a blended family of her son and his 3 daughters. Later they added 3 more children to the family, a daughter and 2 sons.

She was a loving homemaker who put the needs of her large family before her own. She loved the San Francisco Giants and absolutely hated the Los Angeles Dodgers. She would yell at the TV when things for the Giants went south. She loved reading books and doing word puzzles. She loved teaching kids in Sunday School, Good News Clubs, 5 day Clubs, Vacation Bible School and in the Children’s Chapel at the State Fair. She led many children to Christ over her decades of teaching.

She also enjoyed folk art painting and won many awards at the California State Fair. In the years after her husband’s passing she liked to visit family, attend painting conventions, and travel with friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years and their daughters Beverly Martin and Marjorie Baptista.

She is survived by her children Mary Beagle (Carl), Nancy Reid, Gary Martin (Lanette), Stephen Martin (Dana) and David Martin (Julianne), along with 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Barbara Hempel (Gene).

In lieu of flowers, a monetary donation can be made to Sunrise Church in memory of Dorothy Martin.
