Carol was born to George and Luena Stuart on July 21, 1923 near Thompson, Iowa. After graduating from High School, at the age of 18, she taught in a one-room rural schoolhouse. In 1945 she moved to San Diego and helped build airplanes during World War II.
On September 8, 1945 she married Herman Schneider. She worked hard as a homemaker and self-sacrificing wife and mother, raising and caring for 9 children during the 32 years from 1947 to 1979. In 1976, she and Herman bought Steelhead Lodge on the Klamath River in Hamburg, CA. This became their home and business for the next 11 years. They began their retirement years in 1990 when they sold the business and moved to Yreka, CA.
From an early age, Carol loved to read and she liked stories about people, poems, and humorous stories. She loved listening and singing along to music. At the age of 91, she was asked, “What things do you enjoy at this age?” She replied, “I can still walk, talk, and sing.” Carol laughed easily and so enjoyed funny stories and jokes. She enjoyed being around all of her family during gatherings to observe and listen to all the conversations. She will be remembered for her sweet and mild disposition.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Wayne Stuart, her three sisters; Arlene Lillebo, Adna Broers, Dorothy Bradley, and her husband of 60 years, Herman Schneider on April 1, 2006.
She is survived by her 9 children: John Schneider, Connie Barrett, Donna King, Vicky Skinner, Robert Schneider, Pam Littell, Jean Zimmer, Joseph Schneider, Joannie Miller, and their spouses; 22 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The family wishes to thank all who assisted with Carol’s care at Roseville Care Center, CA and Hospice.
Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, memorial arrangements will be held at a later date. A plaque of remembrance will be placed at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park,
Fair Oaks, California.
