Bulbul S. Kadakia was born on November 16, 1949 in Devgadh Baria, Gujarat, India to Shantilal and Shantaben Kadakia. He immigrated to the United States in 1972 and earned a master’s degree in chemical engineering. In 1977, he married his wife Amita, and they initially settled in Houston, Texas before moving to Sacramento, California in 1990.
Bulbul was proud to work at Procter & Gamble as an Engineering Manager for nearly 30 years until his retirement. He was well-known across the organization not only as a problem-solver and leader, but also for his dedication to mentorship, particularly to early-career employees.
Outside of his professional life, Bulbul’s legacy is notable for his commitment to the Indian community in America. In Houston, he helped build the India Center of Clear Lake, which forty years later continues to be the foundation of Indian social and cultural life. He was similarly a fixture in the Indian community in Sacramento, spearheading cultural events, advocating for Indian-American representation in politics, and fundraising for community service organizations. In his retirement, Bulbul was committed to advancing education in India through Ekal Vidalaya. For Bulbul, service to others was his true calling, and manifested in how he lived each day of his life. To friends, family, neighbors, and even strangers, he was known to all as someone who would go out of his way to support others.
Most importantly, Bulbul was the respected patriarch of his immediate and extended family across the United States and India. He supported numerous family members in their journeys to pursue education and establish new lives in America. Even as the family spread across the world, Bulbul maintained strong connections with all his relatives and was present for every milestone.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Amita, his children Mitul (Niti) and Rachel (Kunal), his grandchildren Niam, Aayan, Anand, and Maya, his elder brother, Ashvin (Priti), and countless other loving relatives and friends.
A service will be held in his honor on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 2:00PM at Mount Vernon Memorial Park & Mortuary in Fair Oaks, California.
