At age 96, Arnold (Bud) Scott passed away peacefully, at his home in Citrus Heights, CA after losing his battle with cancer.
Bud was born July 16, 1924 on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation in South Dakota, to Arnold & Rose Scott & was the 4th from the oldest of 11 siblings. He was the last surviving sibling of all 11 children. His family belongs to the Lakota Sicangu Tribe, Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. He was an old time cowboy who loved to ride and broke many a horse to ride, while growing up on the family ranch. Daily chores included branding livestock, rounding up cattle & riding the fence lines. At the age of 18, he moved to sunny California for a short time & this is where he met his bride, Dorothy Crisp (Scott) in 1945 & together they had 3 children, Dorothy, Robert & Beverly. Bud moved back to South Dakota for a while where he had his own cattle ranch & lived there with his wife & oldest daughter, Dorothy. His son Robert was born on the reservation during this time.
Bud moved back to California again in 1954 & located in Citrus Heights, where he remained throughout his life. Here he had a small farm & his 3rd child Beverly was born. His love for horses followed him & he raised Shetland & Welsh ponies & would show his Champion Welsh buckskin stallion at numerous county & state fairs. While enjoying these comforts of home, he also worked at McClellan Air Force Base, near Sacramento CA, where he was employed for 30 years as a jet engine mechanic & specialized in pyrotechnics. Upon his death on October 26, 2020, he had been retired from McClellan, for an amazing 38 years.
Bud’s 1st wife Dorothy past away at age 60 from cancer, he then remarried to his 2nd wife Hope & 3rd wife Barbara. Unfortunately all 3 of his wives past away from cancer. Bud was a loving husband & excellent caretaker of each one of these women, throughout their individual battles with cancer. This unselfish & loving care is just one of the many testaments to the upstanding & loving person that Bud was. His genuine love continued in the relationships with the numerous extended family members he gained through these last 2 marriage & is also a testament to the loving person he was & how important he was to all who knew him.
Bud lived a long & blessed life. He loved our savior Jesus Christ & was a faithful member of the Orangevale 7th Day Adventist Church for over 25 years. He loved his family & friends endlessly & unconditionally. He made friends everywhere he went & everyone loved him in return. Those who were lucky enough to have known Bud, were often entertained by the stories he loved to share about his work, his life on the ranch of breaking the most difficult of horses, his Sioux Indian birth & upbringing, & stories of his most recent shenanigans teasing his family & friends. We knew him as our rock, our teacher, our comedian who loved to play fun & innocent jokes on his loved ones & we all loved taking part in his silly antics by giving all his fun & jokes right back to him. It was indeed a life of love & laughter!! He was an amazing example of how life should be, to all of us who knew him. He loved to cook & have family & friends over for dinner (including his famous road kill stew as he called it, LOL). He loved to bake pies & take them to others to enjoy, as well as always bringing them to our holiday dinners. He was indeed a lover of life & loved gardening, fishing, bowling, & playing cards (particularly Pinochle). Many of this amazing man’s children, grandchildren & great grandchildren would gather at his house weekly to play Pinochle & enjoy deserts together with a night of love & laughter. Bud was a generous & kind man, who was always willing to help others, even if it was with the shirt off his back (as the saying goes).
He was preceded in death by his parents Arnold Jasper Scott & Rose Louise Scott (Emery), his 10 siblings: Louise, Joseph, Edith, George, Elmer, Clarence, Cecil, Cyril, Robert & Richard, 3 wives: Dorothy, Hope & Barbara, 2 grandchildren: Steven & John, & his son-in-law Walter.
He is survived by his 3 children: Dorothy, Robert (& wife Dani), & Beverly; 8 grandchildren: Carol (& husband Troy), Mike, James, Marie, Laurie, Linda, Shelly (& husband Zaki); as well as 14 great grandchildren & 5 great-great grandchildren.
