Alexa "Lexy” Marie Smith, a longtime resident of Sacramento, passed away on March 17, 2025 at the age of 53. Alexa had recently been diagnosed with PVOD, a rare lung disease, after being ill for several months.
Alexa was born on May 17th in San Jose, CA to Clyde and Madeline Smith. She was the youngest of three older siblings (Clyde Jr., Michael, and Kimberly) and proudly embraced her role as the baby of the family. She later became a big sister to Sheena and cherished the title "Sissy." Alexa was also a loving auntie and great aunt, known for her generous gifts, big laugh, and fun adventures.
As a teenager, Alexa moved to Sacramento and became a dancer at the Visual and Performing Art Center at Sacramento High School. Multi-talented and determined, she aspired to be an on-air personality. Within two years of graduating high school, she earned a scholarship and landed an internship at 102.5 KSFM Sacramento, all before turning 20.
Alexa's bright personality was perfect for radio. With a smooth voice, quick wit, and fun attitude, she connected with her listeners known as Lexy The Girl Next Door. Her prolific radio career included on-air work at Alice 97.3 KLLC San Francisco, and radio stops including Z90 in San Diego, Jammin 95.5 in Portland, Mega KAJM in Phoenix, and The Wave in Los Angeles. Most recently, she was at KLOVE and Air1 Network. Her work brought her into contact with music's biggest names, including Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and Jennifer Lopez. Alexa was known on the air and with her colleagues, for her immense talent, sense of humor, and kindness.
Alexa's family was her center. She enjoyed time with her mom, movies with her sisters and nieces, and weekend BBQs with her brother. She loved her kitty Smokey and was a huge fan of Hello Kitty. Alexa was a deeply loyal friend who could make her friends laugh and feel loved in her presence.
Alexa is survived by her mother Madeline, her two sisters, two brothers, nieces, and nephews.
A service to honor her memory will be held on Friday, May 2nd, at Mount Vernon, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks. Doors open at 10:00 am, and the service begins at 10:30 am.
