He was a thriving young athlete throughout high school, playing on the varsity basketball, baseball and football teams at Jefferson High.
Al went on to complete his doctorate from the University of Utah in Kinesiology which he ended up teaching throughout his 34 year career at Humboldt State.
All the while his love of sports continued as he briefly coached college baseball and football, and also published books and articles on baseball.
Al loved gardening, reading, writing and his family.
