Jim represented Brother Rice H.S. on the 1968, NBC's  It's Academic competition.

  Jim was a unique and brilliant individual whose passing lessens our world.  My fellow Class of '68 Crusaders accurately remember Jim's intellectual brilliance and inquisitive mind.  He was always in search of matters that interested him, but unconcerned with scoring grades.  Witness his attainment as a finalist in the National Merit program and being chosen for Rice's It's Academic team, while (according to the yearbook) not making the honor roll two of his four years.  He truly sought knowledge and truth for their own sake.  
  I was his classmate for four years and went to Northwestern with him upon graduation.  I was so happy to see him at our 50th reunion.  His kindness, humility, and sense of humor will be missed.


Class of '68 was a better bunch with Jim in it.  He was my fellow "Sea-Bee" in Brother Shannon's production "South Pacific".  His smile was contagious as well.  Thanks Jim.

I remember classmate Jim mostly for being a fellow "sailor" in the senior play "South Pacific".  A fun guy to be around, always a smile.


Jim and I were the same year at Brother Rice.  We were in many of the same classes.  Jim was a reader, and a writer, and very bright.  Most high school guys would give brief answers, usually one word, if called on by the teacher.  Jim was one of the few guys who could answer in a complete, complex sentence...or more.  I was lucky to see Jim at our 50th reunion, and enjoyed reminiscing with him while walking the Rice hallways.  RIP Jim Foley.

Jim was in my classes at Brother Rice. I remember two things.  In 1964, so we were freshmen, one class held a straw poll for the Illinois governor’s race, Otto Kerner vs. Chuck Percy.  Jim lobbied me for a Kerner vote.  Second, at some point I remember Jim showing me the outline he was working on for a book: character development, plot lines and the like.  I was impressed, of course, if only because this was something I found very interesting but I had no idea how I might go about doing it myself.  I thought Jim was very smart in ways that were very different.  I know Jim was at our 50th Rice reunion and I regret not speaking with him at the time.  My sincere condolences to his family and many friends.

I was in Jim's class at Brother Rice. I haven't seen him since graduation, but I remember him very well. He was an interesting, nice guy, smart as a whip. Our incoming class was about 400 or so. That freshmen class picture had to be divided into two pictures. Jim got into both of them; glasses in one and no glasses in the other. I told you he was smart.

I am glad Jim joined our trivia team and enjoyed coming on Tuesday nights.  We will miss him and his interesting stories!   Rest In Peace dear team mate!💕
