Bill Hope, 86, of Everett sadly and peacefully passed away on August 17, 2023.
Bill was born on September 24, 1936 in Doniphan, Missouri. He was born to Marjorie and Bertrand Hope. From Missouri, his family moved to the state of Washington as his father assumed the role of County Extension Agent. He ultimately graduated from Everett High School in 1954. Following graduation, he attended the University of Washington and became a proud member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He took a hiatus from higher education in order to enlist in the United States Army from 1956-1958 and was stationed in Germany. Upon his return, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Pat (Ren) in 1960, and this was the beginning of their lifelong adventure together.
Bill and Mary Pat began their married life in Seattle as Dad completed his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration at UW. In 1963, he joined the Everett firm of Hascal & Sjoholm Public Accounting. He soon became a partner in the firm, altering the name to Hascal, Sjoholm & Co. It is there that he worked proudly and respectfully for 32 years.
Throughout those years, Mom and Dad built a family and a life together. Five children brought an abundance of activity, laughter, drama at times, but never a dull moment. Dad spent his younger fatherhood years as Santa Clause visiting families on Christmas Eve, watching Little League baseball games and horse shows across the PNW. He continued to play basketball at the Everett YMCA with friends and colleagues. He was known to charter a fishing boat out of Westport on occasion, host 4th of July parties for family and friends on Lake Goodwin, and there were “road trips”; serious road trips with mom and grandparents yearly to Reno - driving a motorhome with the whole family to Disneyland - and random road trips through Nevada and California. Dad loved to drive!!! What patience he had with five arguing kids in the hot car with no air conditioning, a “71 Oldsmobile Delta 88, green on green. Seat belts avantgarde. He was all about looking out the window! And while he was a proud Husky, he sent two of his children to WSU and two of his grandchildren went WSU. He was proud to say, “he went to UW but his money went to WSU!” Regardless, he was proud of his children and grandchildren. He continued to love the Seattle Mariners, Copper River Salmon at Anthony’s. He continued to enjoy life and is inspirational.
In November of 1995, Bill suffered a sudden and massive stroke that changed life for all of us, but for none more than him. For 28 years, Bill experienced life transferring from wheelchairs, walkers, assisted living homes and new treatments. While his life was never the same, he met these challenges with a reserved sort of patience ultimately, and enjoyed as much of life as he could. He welcomed new grandchildren into the world and watched them grow into young adults. He continued to enjoy family holidays, birthdays and celebrations. He remained a beloved father and granddaddy!
Bill is preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Pat Hope. He will be missed by his large family. He leaves behind a brother, EB (Brenda) and nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his sons Jeff and Jerry, daughters Jill (Brad), Jennifer (Kevin) and Joelle (Rich). The many grandchildren who knew him as “Granddaddy” and "Grandad" will cherish their memories of him include: Matt Abbott, Hannah Hope, Brady Lees, Ren Hope, Bennett Lees, Lindsay Hope, Blake Lees, Brandon McBryde, Annika Lambott, Kelsey Lambott, Jake Henry and Tye Henry.
Bill will be laid to rest in a private graveside ceremony on October 6, 2023. In lieu of flowers the family asks that kind donations be made to the Everett Gospel Mission or Seattle Children's Hospital. Thank you for your condolences and kindness.
