Our beloved mother went home to be with the Lord in the early morning of September 29th, 2022. Shirley Vandermeer passed away peacefully at her home in Everett, WA. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, Beppa, and friend. We will miss her terribly.
Shirley was born in Everett on October 25th, 1927. She graduated from Everett High School with the class of 1946. After graduation, she created the window displays for the Bon Marche in Seattle. Mom always had an eye for color and design.
Shirley married her next door neighbor, Raymond Vandermeer in 1948. Together they had three children. She loved her family, her church, and her community. She was a charter member of Cascade View Presbyterian Church since 1962, a campfire leader, and PTA member, and a School Board member for the Everett School District for almost 20 years.
Blessed with a green thumb, Mom enjoyed flowers and had a beautiful flower garden at her home. She also enjoyed family gatherings, spending time with her grandchildren, church activities, and travel.
Shirley is survived by her sister Virginia Carter, daughter Jill and husband Al Romero, Son John Vandermeer and Waas Porter, and son Jay Vandermeer. She is also survived by grandchildren Caelyn, Anna, Raychelle, and Thomas, as well as many nieces and nephews. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond.
Shirley will be remembered for her devotion to her family, the way she shared her kindness freely with all she met and the way she embraced life.
A service/celebration of life will be held on Saturday October 8th, 2022 at 10:30am at Cascade View Presbyterian Church (1030 E. Casino Rd. Everett, WA 98208). Friends and loved ones are invited to bring a memento, photo, or written story to share and be placed in a book of remembrance of Shirley.
Contributions are suggested to Cascade View Presbyterian Church, New Roof Fund (1030 E. Casino Rd. Everett, WA 98203) or your favorite charity.
Mom, you were the best mom ever, we will miss you and you will always be in our hearts.
