On January 16, 2022, Robert John Visscher (Bob), a life-long resident of Everett, WA, passed away in his home with his wife of 63 years, and his eldest son Bob Jr. by his side; ultimately losing his valiant battle with cancer.
Born March 2, 1938 in Everett, WA to Johanna and Jan Visscher, he attended Everett High School (Class of 1957) where he met and later married his life’s partner, Jean Murray. Bob and a group of classmates from Everett High School, joined the Navy Reserves together in 1956; spending their summers traveling to San Diego and other ports for training. As young teens, they had many interesting experiences on the ships they were assigned to.
Bob served in the Naval Reserve for eight years, leaving in 1964 with many friendships that endured for years to come. A skilled and highly respected Adjuster and Machinist, he retired from Scott Paper Company in 1994 after 34 years and enjoyed a long and active retirement. Bob and wife Jean proudly raised two sons, both following in their father’s footsteps with successful careers in the Pulp and Paper Industry.
Bob and his wife enjoyed socializing with their many friends and never missed an opportunity to get out on the dance floor together. An avid bow hunter, until recent years October meant an annual hunting trip with dear friends. This highly anticipated retreat into the mountains each year was more about the comradery than getting their game. As one of the founders, Bob helped run a trap shooting club for many years as part of the Scott Paper Recreational Association. It was clear that Bob loved animals, having ducks, rabbits, dogs and cats over the years. It seemed like they would always seek him out, sit or sleep next to him and follow him around. He enjoyed boating and water skiing on the Columbia River during summers at their home in Crescent Bar, going to classic car shows, watching Western movies, among many other activities.
Bob is preceded in death by his mother, Johanna Visscher and father, Jan (Jack) Visscher, his in-laws Catherine and Harry Murray, and brother-in-law Thomas Murray. He is survived by his wife Jean, two sons; Robert John Visscher Jr. (Susan Tallis) and Todd Allen Visscher (Julie Visscher), his brother Larry Visscher (Arlene Visscher), brother-in-law Roy Murray (Lyn Murray), sister-in-law Belinda Murray and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be remembered and missed by many including close friends; Colby Cruisers, Arlington Pilots Group and 03 enthusiasts.
