February 8, 1965 – March 21, 2025. Rick (Ricky) Martin Duell was born February 8th at Providence in Everett to Arlene and Marty Duell. Rick grew up in Everett, WA at 3601 Friday Ave for the first 5 to 6 years of life with his older sister Rene. His family then moved, on a Sunday, to 4902 Dogwood Drive where he spent most of his life growing up. Rick went to Everett High School and graduated with his best friends, the class of 1983. Throughout his life, the class of 83’crew, were his close friends and meant the world to him. After graduation, Rick went on to get his Associates degree from Everett Community College. One fateful night, out dancing at Black Angus in Lynnwood, he met Nancy; little did he know that night would change his world, with 34 years of marriage and two amazing children. Nancy Taylor married Rick Duell August 11th, 1990 in a Mukilteo church. Soon after, the newly-weds bought their first home in Marysville, welcomed their first dog named Tequila, and started their life together. In 1994, their son, Max Anthony Duell, joined the family to live in Marysville for the first few years. In 1998 the family moved to their main home in South Everett- Mill Creek area to continue with life; which brought a sense of deep pride to what he had accomplished. Joining the family in 2001 was Nikki Katelynn Duell, his daughter. The Duell’s were always the talk of the cul-de-sac, with their many home improvement adventures and chaotic Christmas decorating. Rick was a kind soul and very loyal to those he valued in his life. The one person that was his best friend until her death was his mom, Arlene. All in the same year, in losing his sister Rene (in April) to cancer and his mom (in October) to cancer shortly after, it took a toll on him and his family. Rick was always proud of his accomplishments in running a business, helping people in need, and being the ultimate husband/father/salesman combination. Family members meeting him in Heaven: Arlene Duell (mom), Rene (sister), and Tequila (family dog). Surviving family: Martin Duell (father); Wife, Nancy Duell (Taylor); children: Max Duell and Nikki Duell; and grand-dog, Oxford. He is also survived by Dan and Colleen Taylor (in-laws), Dan Taylor II (Bother-in-law), Callie Smith (Niece), cousins, further connected family, and his friends. As a family, we would like to thank all the countless nurses that helped him in the hospital (especially, Sierra and Taylor), his surgeon (Dr. Darryl Schuitevoerder), his oncologist (Dr. Lishi Sun) with her assistant (Elizabeth), his radiologist (Dr.Little), and Fred Hutch doctor (Dr. Harris). We would also like to extend our gratitude to Bob and Brenda Bishop, Kim Buchanan, Mike O’Donnell, and Corey Bartholomew for all the warmth and help in such a difficult transition into his death.
Celebration of Life is on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Everett Firefighters’ Hall, 2411 Hewitt Ave, Everett, WA 98201, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
