Rhonda Jean Niles, a beacon of light in the field of oncological nursing, passed away on May 18, 2024, at the age of 69. Born on October 25, 1954, Rhonda’s life was a testament to her unwavering dedication to education, her passion for helping others, and her love for life.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Carrie Palmer and Jenny Schoener; her cherished grandchildren, Alyssa, Blake, Colin, and Logan; her caring sisters, Molly Fox (whom she had a very close relationship with), Diana Fox Carlson, Karen Giroux, Sandy Adams-Ball; and her brothers, Kenneth Fox and Michael Fox. She cherished the time spent with her great nephew Jason and her nephew Cameron Azbill, holding dear the memories until Cameron’s passing on February 12, 2023.
Rhonda’s zest for life was evident in her love for running, her joy in the simple pleasure of being with people, and her fondness for watching old movies. Rhonda’s love for travel took her to places around the world, with a special fondness for Hawaii. She was a pillar of strength and support, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need with the means at her disposal.
Her academic journey was marked by a relentless pursuit of knowledge, earning degrees from Everett Community College, the State University of New York, Albany, and the University of Washington. Her academic excellence culminated in a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Washington and a Master of Science in Nursing from Yale University.
Rhonda’s professional path was distinguished by her service as an oncology staff nurse, an adult nurse practitioner, and a clinical outcomes manager. Her research contributions, including articles like “Pharmacologic Management of Cancer Pain” and studies on the effects of methylphenidate, have left an indelible mark on the field of cancer pain management.
A certified adult nurse practitioner, Rhonda was an active member of several professional organizations and was recognized as a noteworthy oncological nurse by Marquis Who’s Who. Sought out for her expertise in pain management, Rhonda was honored to consult with the Gates family, providing guidance and care with her renowned skill and knowledge.
In her field of work, Rhonda was the epitome of caring and compassion. Her legacy will continue to inspire and influence many.
Her family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who have been a part of her journey. A memorial service will be held to honor her life and achievements; details will be shared with family and friends. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate her life, knowing that she will forever be dancing down the streets in our hearts.
